OUR SOBER PARENT JOURNEY

The Sober Parents are Claire & Karl Elliott. We are certified coaches in both positive psychology and Alcohol-Free Coaching. With over 16 years combined sobriety we believe we have all the tools to help you succeed.

We are also parents to five amazing children between us: Together we have twin girls aged 4 and older children from previous relationships aged 13, 20 and 21.

Our mission is to empower parents and transform their lives by showing how living an Alcohol-Free lifestyle can be a positive experience for not only yourself but your entire family.

We draw on our personal experiences of parenting both while drinking and without drinking to provide support, guidance, and encouragement to you every step of the way.

We are also aware that you have taken a huge step in merely starting to look at taking a pause on alcohol. We too took those steps back in 2016 and 2017 and it has transformed our lives in ways we never thought possible in a million years.

Meet Your Sober Coach - Karl

I quit drinking on June 1st 2016. It was never something I ever thought I was going to do, although I knew I had a problem with drink I didn't think I was an alcoholic or needed to get sober. Initially it was supposed to be just a 90 day challenge. That has now become 8 and a half years.

I was a daily drinker, a heavy daily drinker, yet I was also able to wake each morning at 4:30am and do a full days work as a lorry driver. I felt I was just the same as many of my peers who I associated with after work in the pub.

I became a co-parent to my eldest daughter in 2013 after a breakup and this spiralled my drinking out of control. I was in denial about how much I was destroying not only my life but those around me.

I remember seeing a programme on drinking titled 'Drinking to Oblivion' with Louis Theroux and that started to get me thinking about my own drinking.

That's when I decided to look at taking a break. Initially I'd done a couple of dry January's and in doing them I already knew I could do 30 days. This time I needed to go longer.

I found a community, a mentor and an even sought 1:1 support. All this combined created a powerful foundation to succeed getting to not just 90 days but where I am today. I am still in contact with many of that old community today.

In 2018 I met Claire on a separate sober community and after a couple of years commuting between the north of England and the south I relocated to the south and within a year we decided to start a family of our own.

Being sober is not the stigma it once was. Even when we stopped it was frowned upon. Nowadays sobriety is everywhere and people are proud to be sober. I know I am.

I know I can help you live the life I have. It just takes that first step by taking a pause on alcohol for 30 days .

I look forward to working with you.

Meet Your Sober Coach - Claire

I was born in the UK to a British Mother and a Turkish Father, but my early childhood was spent in Turkey. I moved back to the UK when I was nearly 4, growing up in a loving, close-knit family. Despite the love around me, I was an extremely shy child, constantly attached to my Mum and uncomfortable at school.

By my teenage years, I struggled with bullying and turned to alcohol at 14. What started as a way to find confidence and fit in soon became a crutch. By 16, I was clubbing and drinking excessively, but I quickly became the friend others had to take care of. Although alcohol gave me the acceptance I craved, it also began to control me.

In my early twenties, my drinking was more manageable, but it crept back into my life when I had two young children. Balancing motherhood with the pressures of starting my own business became overwhelming. The stress of juggling both led me to rely on alcohol again. What began as a glass of wine to unwind soon spiralled into multiple drinks each night, and along with antidepressants for postnatal depression, I was numbing the overwhelming feelings I didn’t want to face.

By my late thirties, my drinking had reached a breaking point. I was successful in business but deeply unhappy. I wasn't the mother I wanted to be, and I knew I needed to make a change. In 2017, I sold my business and took control of my life. I stopped drinking, and I’ve now been sober for almost 8 years.

Today, I live with my 4 children (aged 21, 20, and 4-year-old twins) and my husband Karl. My journey from struggling with alcohol to living a fulfilling, sober life has taught me that transformation is possible, no matter how difficult it may seem.

If you’re a parent who feels overwhelmed, I want you to know that change is possible. You can break free from the things holding you back, just like I did. I’m here to help you take the first steps toward a life filled with joy, presence, and purpose.
